The vile vendor: questions

Learning Material  |  Interactive Lesson

Description
Use a vending machine to get a vile-flavoured drink such as cabbage, smelly sock or rusty nail. The machine serves a can of drink randomly from four slots. Work out the likelihood of getting each flavour. Then choose a matching probability word: impossible, unlikely, equal, likely or certain. Move on to filling the slots with drink flavours to match the given likelihood statements. This learning object is one in a series of three activities.
Objective
1. Students match probability situations with everyday chance words.
2. Students explore the tension between theoretical probability and randomness.
3. Students construct situations to match probability scenarios.
