Module 18 of the UCSP class introduces the learners to
the significance of education and civic awareness in
society. The module explains the function of education as
an institution, especially toward the individual, society,
and the nation.
Moreover, the module discusses different reforms and
developments concerning education that build towards
the education being a fundamental human right.
Following this, there is elaboration on the challenges
experienced by the stakeholders of education, and the
education sector as a whole, during the pandemic.
Objective
Lesson 1
At the end of the lesson, the student is able to:
● differentiate formal, non-formal education, and informal education in the Philippines;
● explain the functions of education in society;
● reflect on their own reasons and motivations for studying; and
● identify activities, routines, and/or behavior in formal education that fall within the different functions of education.
Lesson 2
At the end of the lesson, the student is expected to be
able to:
● explain why education is a fundamental human right; and
● appreciate the different education reforms that support the right to education in the country.
Lesson 3
At the end of the lesson, the student is expected to be
able to:
● think about the current challenges to basic education amidst the pandemic;
● know the significance of the educational problems that the education community is facing in the pandemic; and
● visualize possible solutions to address the education challenges experienced by education stakeholders amidst the pandemic.
