Description
Module 1 of the MIL class introduces the learners to media and information, the evolution of media, and the impact of media and information to communication. Moreover, the module discusses the dynamics between media and politics, and the context of the media in the digital age. Likewise, it promotes reflection on the impact of media in society and politics, and one’s role and power as a digital citizen.
Objective
Lesson 1
At the end of the lesson, the student is expected to be able to:
● define communication, media, and relevant literacies (media, information, and technology);understand the relationship between media and politics in society;
● recognize how new media is shaping public discourse today;
● identify the difference between misinformation, disinformation, and mal-information; and
● enumerate steps on how to become intelligent consumers of online content.
Lesson 2
At the end of the lesson, the student is expected to be able to:
● be aware of the changing landscape of media today; and
● recognize the challenges and prospects in new media.
