Description
Race two cars along a track. Use a colored spinner (dial with pointer) to determine which car moves along the track. Use a spinner with two or three equal-sized sectors, each colored red or blue. Test the spinner over a number of spins. Compare the actual results with the expected results. Does a fair spinner result in all cars winning equally often? Is the color with the largest sector on the spinner most likely to be landed on? This learning object is one in a series of six objects.
Objective
1. Students differentiate between equal and unequal likelihood.
2. Students explore the relationship between sample space and likelihood of outcomes.
3. Students use proportional thinking to predict and compare the outcomes of random generators.
