Community enterprise: pools, parks and toys [ESL]

Learning Material  |  Interactive Lesson  |  RAR

Help a local council to investigate proposals for redeveloping an old factory site. Compare the benefits of building a swimming pool, toy factory or park. Gather facts and opinions from local residents at three locations: a shopping mall, a talkback radio station and a council meeting. Rate the economic, social and environmental effects of each proposal. Explain the reasons for your recommendation. Use a model structure to write a letter to the mayor recommending a course of action.
Students compare the merits of a number of solutions to a series of conflicts between various interest groups and stakeholders in a local community.
Students recommend and justify a solution that achieves the most favourable outcome for all interest groups and stakeholders
