Description
Make musical notes by plucking a stringed instrument. Explore how a vibrating string creates pressure waves through the air. Look at graphs showing sounds as a waveform. Explore the relationships between string length, musical pitch and wave frequency. Compare musical notes with soundwave patterns and predict one from the other. Match tunes correctly to score points. This learning object is one in a series of four objects. The series is also packaged as a combined learning object.
Objective
Students explore how sounds are caused by vibrating objects.
Students adjust the length of a string to change the frequency of vibrations and produce musical notes with a range of pitches.
