Description
Make musical notes by plucking a stringed instrument. Explore how a vibrating string creates pressure waves through the air. Look at graphs showing sounds as a waveform. Explore the relationships between string length, musical pitch and wave frequency. Compare musical notes with soundwave patterns. This learning object is one in a series of four objects. The series is also packaged as a combined learning object.
Objective
Students explore how sounds are caused by vibrating objects.
Students adjust the length of a string to change the frequency of vibrations and produce musical notes with a range of pitches.
