Find out what a stem-and-leaf graph is and use it to investigate the truth about different conjectures. Work through a tutorial about stem-and-leaf graphs, and then choose an investigation from a set of three. Enter your own data in some investigations. For example, test the reaction time of your preferred hand against your non-preferred hand. Construct a stem-and-leaf graph, calculate the mean and identify the median. Use the graph, the mean and median to draw a conclusion about the conjecture. This learning object is a combination of four learning objects in the same series.
Objective
1. Students interpret and explore two sets of data represented in back-to-back stem-and-leaf graphs.
2. Students use data and data handling processes to assist in identifying the truth behind a theory.
3. Students compare information derived from two data sets.
