Description
Compare the sizes and angles of a range of cubes and rectangular prisms. Notice that 'similar solids' in the mathematical sense have the same shape and possibly different sizes. Corresponding sides are in proportion, and corresponding angles are equal. Identify solids that are similar, and create solids similar to given objects. This learning object is the fourth in a series of eight objects that progressively increase in difficulty.
Objective
1. Students manipulate solids to distinguish between similar and non-similar objects.
2. Students identify corresponding sides and angles of solids.
3. Students apply mathematical language and criteria to identify and create similar solids.
