The Metrix: asteroid: decimals

Learning Material  |  Interactive Lesson

Published on 2018 August 13th

Description
Captain the Metrix spacecraft on its mission to save Earth from an asteroid collision. Use the metric measurement tables for mass, length and volume to help you make metric unit conversions involving decimal numbers. Some of these will involve rates, such as speed and frequency. (For example, to blow up the asteroid, find the spacecrafts's speed in km/ms that matches the asteroid's speed of 24 km/s.) Beat two other spacecraft to the asteroid to save Earth. This learning object is the sixth in a series of six learning objects.
Objective
Students apply knowledge of relationships in metric measurement by converting between units of mass, length and capacity.
Students interpret terminology for mass, length and capacity to solve problems involving other units and rates.
