Light and reflection: light rays: shadow animals

Learning Material  |  Interactive Lesson  |  RAR

Make shadows by placing a range of objects between a light source and a screen. Position shapes to make a shadow animal. Notice that shadows are larger when more light is blocked. This learning object is one in a series of six objects. Some of the objects are also packaged as two combined learning objects.

Students relate the size of a shadow to the proximity of an object to a light source.
Students combine simple shapes to cast a shadow having a complex shape.
