Description
Test your understanding of decimal place value. Start with a four-digit number such as 3569, 356.9, 35.69 or 3.569. Spin a random digit, then choose its decimal place value. The starting number will be adjusted by the amount you choose. Work towards a given four-digit target number such as 7832, 783.2, 78.32 or 7.832. You can use a ‘Wishball’ to help you reach the target number. Try to achieve the target with as few additions or subtractions as possible. This learning object is one in a series of ten objects.
Objective
1. Students identify the place value of each digit in a four-digit whole number and the relative value of a given digit in different places within a four-digit whole number.
2. Students add and subtract thousands, hundreds, tens, ones, tenths, hundredths and thousandths.
3. Students read and interpret various representational forms.
4. Students compare decimal fractions, including those greater than 1.
