Chemical reactions: reaction reshuffles

Learning Material  |  Interactive Lesson  |  RAR

Description
Investigate chemical reactions at a molecular level. Examine collisions between molecules of two reactants. Adjust the ratios of the reactants and compare the outcomes. Identify the number of molecules involved in a balanced reaction. For example, two A molecules combine with a B2 molecule to form a molecule of A2B2. This learning object is one in a series of six objects. The series is also packaged as a combined learning object.
Objective

Students interpret chemical equations at a molecular level
Students balance chemical equations.
Students relate balancing equations to the conservation of atoms in chemical reactions.
Students explain chemical reactions in terms of collision theory.
Students relate energy flow in chemical reactions to the making and breaking of chemical bonds.
