Lunar cycles: moon phases: assessment

Learning Material  |  Interactive Lesson

Description
Test your understanding of moon phases by completing ten multiple-choice questions. For example: identify how long it takes for the Moon to make one complete orbit around the Earth; choose an explanation for moon phases. Experiment with a model to help you answer the questions. For instance, move the position of the Moon as it orbits Earth to explore how the Moon's orbit position is related to views of the Moon from Earth. See your results when you have finished the quiz.
Objective
1. Students use a model to calculate the length of time for the Moon to orbit the Earth.
2. Students determine the visible shape of the Moon from its orbit position and relate this to common phase names.
3. Students determine the fraction of the lit part of the Moon that can be seen from Earth at a specified orbit position.
4. Students provide an explanation for moon phases.
