Seasons: latitude

Learning Material  |  Interactive Lesson  |  RAR

Description
Control the motion of the Earth in its orbit around the Sun. Work out how the Earth’s orbit and the tilt of its axis determine daylight hours at different latitudes. For example, compare daylight hours during different seasons at the equator and at the poles. This learning object is part of a series of four objects. The series is also packaged as a combined learning object.
Objective

Students describe the Earth's rotation on a tilted axis and its revolution around the Sun.
Students describe how the Earth's orbit combines with latitude to determine daylight hours and seasons.
Students identify how latitude and season influence day length.
Students relate the changing elevation of the Sun in the sky to latitude and season.
