This Self-Learning Resource (SLR) in Mathematics 8 Quarter 1 – Booklet 2 is intended for Grade 8 learners for them to be capable and achieve the MELC in Mathematics 8 in their own pace and time. This booklet covers four topics namely: Illustrating the Rectangular Coordinate System, Writing Standard Form of the Equation into Slope-Intercept Form and Vice Versa, Finding the Equation of the Line, and Solving System of Linear Equations.
Objective
After going through this SLR, the learners are expected to:
1. illustrate the rectangular coordinate system, linear equations in two variables and slope of the line.
2. write linear equation Ax + By = C in the form y = mx + b and vice versa.
3. graphs a linear equation given (a) any two points; (b) the x- and y- intercepts; (c) the slope and a point on the line, describes the graph of a linear equation in terms of its intercepts and slope, find the equation of a line and solves problems involving linear equations in two variables.
4. illustrates and graphs a system of linear equations in two variables, categorizes when a given system of linear equations in two variables has graphs that are parallel, intersecting and coinciding; and solves problems involving systems of linear equations in two variables by (a) graphing; (b) substitution; (c) elimination.
