Help an editor to check an article drafted for a magazine. Examine a column graph showing salaries for a range of occupations. Make sure the graph is soundly constructed. Look for any problems that may affect the accuracy of conclusions drawn from the graph. For example, check that markings on the vertical axis are evenly spaced and start at zero. Adjust the graph if needed. This learning object is one in a series of six objects. Three objects in the series are also packaged as a combined learning object.
Objective
1. Students interpret graphical representations of grouped data.
2. Students identify errors in construction of scales and misleading conclusions derived from that data.
3. Students edit a graph to conform with sound graphing practices.
