Energy-efficient house: build for performance

Interactive  |  Interactive Lesson  |  RAR

Description
Explore how the temperature inside a house is affected by air flowing in and out. Look closely at the energy effects of design variables in a house such as insulation materials, window coverings and window direction. Build a house with maximum energy efficiency by adjusting key design variables. Change the house design to suit the local climate. This learning object is one in a series of four learning objects. The series is also packaged as a combined learning object.
Objective
Students explore how a range of materials and design factors affect the energy efficiency of a building.
Students explore how climate influences the energy efficiency of a building.
Students identify materials and design factors that will maximize energy efficiency of a building in a given climate.
