Assess your ability to optimise the performance of a bike for racing. Also test your understanding of how gear selection affects the cadence and overall run time. View the performance of a bike using low gear only. Then use the computer simulator to improve bike performance by changing the gears and adjusting the cadence during a maximum of three test runs. Finally, after two trial runs on the race day track, choose the gear shift tactics best suited to the track conditions on race day and help the rider win the race.
Objective
1. Student correctly adjusts gear selection to result in reduced time of run.
2. Student correctly interprets data from the cadence graph.
3. Student correctly selects gears to maximise the bike performance in a timed race scenario.
