This Self-Learning Resource (SLR) in Mathematics 8 Quarter 1 - Booklet 1 is intended for Grade 8 learners for them to be capable and achieve the MELC in Mathematics 8 in their own pace and time. This booklet covers three topics namely: Factoring Polynomials, Illustrating and Simplifying Rational Algebraic Expressions, and Operations on Rational Algebraic Expressions.
Objective
After going through this SLR , the learners are expected to:
1. Factor completely the different types of polynomials (polynomials with common monomial factor, difference of two squares, sum and difference of two cubes, perfect square trinomials, and general trinomials) and solve problems involving factors of polynomials;
2. Illustrate and simplify rational algebraic expressions;
3. Add and subtract rational algebraic expressions and solve problems involving addition and subtraction of rational algebraic expressions; and
4. Multiply and divide rational algebraic expressions and solve problems involving multiplication and division of rational algebraic expressions
